In November 2010, Hester was selected for an 'Extending Practise Award' by Crysalis Arts. This has enabled her to work closely with a mentor, Jane Sellars, from the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate. Jane invited Hester to create work inspired by the Vale of York Viking Hoard that was discovered in 2007 by two metal detectorists just outside of Harrogate. The hoard is jointly owned by the Yorkshire Museum, where it is currently on display, and the Bristish Museum. It was a groundbreaking discovery which consisted of an ornate gilt silver vessel filled with 617 silver coins from as far away as Samarkhand and various pieces of jewellery, hack silver and a gold bracelet. The BBC have made a programme about the hoard which they have included as part of their History of the World in 100 Objects.

Hester has been working with the two museums and has started to create prints inspired by the history and nature of the hoard.

In September the treasure will go on display at The Mercer Gallery for three months before heading to London and Hester will be exhibiting her prints alongside it.
