Hester uses collagraph techniques in her own work but mainly uses the indented or inscribed surface to print (known as intaglio). Intaglio involves the use of a press to achieve a decent print while a relief collagraph can be printed by hand. With Hester as your guide you will learn how to create a relief collagraph plate where the upper surface is inked and used to print. Relief collagraph is particularly effective when incorporating textiles or textured papers into your work and can also be combined with other techniques. If you always wanted to have a go at printmaking but thought you’d need access to an expensive press, Hester will show you how you can create stunning prints by hand and get repeat prints from your plate which will allow you to experiment and create editions.
